Launch of Cywain market intelligence tool
18 January 2010The One Bright Space team are pleased to announce the launch of Cywain for Strata Matrix.
Cywain is a market intelligence tool funded by the European Union with the goal of helping farmers and food producers in Wales to understand their markets, as well as find new ones.
Specialist food magazines and other forms of relevant printed media are monitored, and summaries prepared to be placed on the system by Strata Matrix. The system can house an impressive back-catalogue of data, with at least 80-100 new articles appearing every week.
As well as being highly searchable and easy to navigate for clients looking for specific information about trends in a certain point in time, the system is used by Strata Matrix to prepare weekly reports on market trends and new foods to be sent to food producers.
This unique tool, tailor-made for Strata Matrix by One Bright Space, is just one example of how innovative new web-based systems can revolutionise the world of business.
Strategic mapping for the South East of England Development Agency (January 2010)
January 2010OBS has been tasked with further developing SEEDA's intranet GIS 'cultural economic and opportunities framework'. Working closely with consultants for Kent and Hampshire County Councils OBS are building a web GIS tool to allow users to conceptualise locations of their current and prospective facilities combined with factors such as quality and capacity.
The system then also allows planners to visualise statistics including demographics, population density, and business data on their maps. This helps them support their cases when developing new venues or when looking to further upgrade facilities. It is also used to determine adequate facilities to serve new housing developments.
Senior developer Dr. Justin Denney presents at AGI Cymru
10 December 2009The 11th annual conference of the Welsh branch of the Association of Geographic Information was held in Cardiff.
Dr. Justin Denney, Senior Developer at One Bright Space, delivered an address on Utilising open source geospatial and semantic technologies to enable user centric design of mash-ups.
We are always looking for new technologies that allow people to find and use information in new and interesting ways; so we love the Semantic Web. In this presentation I talked about how we are trying to consolidate lots of information about lots of things to create a web experience. Once we have all that data we use the semantic web to make sense of it and when combined with our geospatial know how, allow a user to explore it in new and interactive ways.
One Bright Space's member portal helps gain WLGA charter for Brecon Beacons National Park Authority
24 November 2009The Brecon Beacons National Park Authority has been awarded the Charter for Member Support and Development by the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA). The charter has been created to recognise efficient support services for elected members within Welsh local government.
One of the central goals of the charter is to encourage networking and comparison between and within authorities in order to improve performance. Of particular interest to the WLGA when issuing the award was One Bright Space's member portal facility:
"The internet accessible member portal is an impressive facility that connects a range of features in a highly accessible way. These features range from an information exchange facility that allows members to share and discuss ideas and information amongst themselves, to a "decision-tracking" facility that allows them to identify the source of decisions and trace progress in their implementation."
