Escape Planner
The Escape Planner is a cutting edge web presentation tool that broadens horizons and aims to give your visitors a deeper, richer online experience than ever.
Inverting the commonplace practice of inserting small images into text, we select visually stunning images that demonstrate the awesome wonder of our landscape, place them at the heart of the system, and create content that functions within an image-driven experience. This visually arresting fusion of imagery and content is central to the ethos of this software.
Matt Webster, Director of One Bright Space says “Our core idea in developing this software was to excite the visitor with a real taste of what to expect from his or her chosen destination. We realised that a map with a line on it and some icons doesn’t say very much about a place. My first question when I’m thinking about going somewhere is ‘What will it be like? What will I see?’
Once inspired I can then go and look at maps, read comments, work out how to get there and print out the information I need once I’m there. I should also be able to figure out where I plan to have lunch, stay at the end of the day, or have a pint before I go home. For each place it’s our intention to get across some of that uniqueness; the reason to visit that particular place.”
Features of the Escape Planner
The Escape Planner is highly customisable, and can be branded to fit your corporate design; the user interface can even be redesigned if required. Routes may be selected as features from the top menu, and the background image reflects this choice, changing the entire feel of the page with the click of a button. Photos can be added by site administrators, or can be uploaded by users of the site if desired.
The navigation system is dynamic and multifaceted; users can work their way around the site using the menu on the front page, search for specific information, or use the interactive map. In the main menu, routes of particular types can be grouped into activities such as cycling, walking, or other activities. They may also be any group you define such as nature or heritage.
The concept of incorporating data into an interactive map seen in previous work by One Bright Space has been further expanded, with the map occupying a yet more central place in the workings of the Escape Planner. In a similar vein to the iconic images, the map fills most of the page, pushing users to discover the full potential of this powerful tool.
As well as being adaptable to suit your needs, the Escape Planner includes an optional ‘Comments’ feature which encourages user participation, allowing visitors to share their experiences and tips with each other at the corresponding point on the map.
A useful feature of the Escape Planner is the incorporation of day-relevant information into the system. The latest weather forecasts can be displayed, and recommendations can be made as to what activities are suitable in the given forecast. The calendar can contain information on upcoming events such as guided walks, or any other type of event.
